Updating Generic Label Shipping Method Mapping

If you received an email from us saying you have an order(s) that needs to be mapped because it is set to Generic Label, fear not, this guide will get you all taken care of.

What is Generic Label?

The most common time this arises is if you create a new shipping method within your store and you don't have it mapped to an option in ShipHero. Instead of the system guessing what to use, it will change it to Generic Label. ANYTIME you add/modify the name of the shipping methods within your marketplace you must map the new method. Here are instructions for doing that > https://shiplab.helpscoutdocs.com/article/67-shiphero-mapping-new-shipping-methods

Note: Generic label can also be used intentionally for LTL/Freight orders where you will be providing a BOL and/or shipping labels. If that is the case, then you do not need to do anything.

How Do I Fix This?

The following steps will walk you through getting your shipping methods mapped and then updating the order(s) you got notified about so that they can be shipped out.

  1. Make sure all your unmapped methods are mapped by going here: https://app.shiphero.com/dashboard/shipping-options?type=unmapped , selecting your Store(s) and mapping all methods based on the instructions here.
  2. After you have mapped your methods, it will automatically update all orders that use that shipping name from your marketplace.
  3. Go to the order(s) that you were notified about. Confirm that the shipping method was successfully changed and it does not say "Generic Label" in the Shipment Info box. If it looks like the image below and still says "Generic Label" then that is incorrect. This usually means you have not mapped the exact shipping method that was use (i.e. What's listed under Shipping Name). If you do not see Generic Label listed as the Shipping Method and it says a real carrier like UPS Ground, FedEx 2-Day, etc. then you did it correctly and can proceed to step 4.

  1. Scroll to the very bottom of the order and remove the Operator Hold, then click "Update" to save your changes. If this was the only issue with this order then it will release the order into our picking queue.

If you have many orders with this same issue and you need to update the Operator Hold status at one time, you can use the Bulk Edit feature on the Manage Orders page to update many orders at once. Use the filters on the left hand side and check the "Operator Hold" box.

This will now show all orders with an Operator Hold. You can then select all the orders you want to update.

Just above the list of orders, look for "Bulk Edit", click that and it will open a modal that has all the bulk edit options. Scroll down to "Operator Hold" and check "Remove" then click Update to save your changes and update all the orders. Then you're done!
